Introduction
When God created man, He created them with three parts; spirit, soul and body.
- Body, Mind & spirit: Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV
- Body & Soul: the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7 KJV
- Body & spirit: the dust [out of which God made man’s body] will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7 AMP
GOD's will that our Body, Soul and Spirit prosper
- Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper1 and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 John 1:2 KJV
Other versions
- Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually]. 3 John 1:2 AMP
Note sequence of prosperity: Body/Business prospering “following” prosperity of soul & spirit.
Body
May perish while on earth
- Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJV
Will be transformed eventually
- But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. Philippians 3:20-21 ESV
- So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 ESV
Exercise/Growth
- I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27 ESV
Other Bible Versions
- I buffet my body and make it my slave, lest possibly, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27 NASB 1977
- But [like a boxer] I strictly discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached [the gospel] to others, I myself will not somehow be disqualified [as unfit for service]. 1 Corinthians 9:27 AMP
State of Unbelievers vs Believers
1. Unbelievers
- spirit currently dead: even when we were [spiritually] dead and separated
from Him because of our sins Ephesians 2:5 AMP - soul will die: The soul who sins shall die. Ezekiel 18:20 ESV
- body will die: death is the destiny of every man Ecclesiastes 7:2 NIV 1984
2. Believers
- spirit currently alive: He made us [spiritually] alive together with Christ (for by His grace—His undeserved favor and mercy—you have been saved from God’s judgment). Ephesians 2:5 AMP
- soul will be saved: Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy, now that you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:8-9 BSB
- body will rise: So it is with the resurrection of the dead. The [human] body that is sown is perishable and mortal, it is raised imperishable and immortal. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in strength; it is sown a natural body [mortal, suited to earth], it is raised a spiritual body [immortal, suited to heaven]. As surely as there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual body. 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 AMP
