Tarry until … Luke 24:49

Key Verse

  • Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry1 in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued2 with power3  from on high.” Luke 24:49 NKJV 
Tarry = to sit (down)

Endued = in the sense of sinking into a garment
Power = specially, miraculous power, (worker of) miracle(-s)

Come = to supervene, i.e. attack
Upon = meaning superimposition

Witness = by analogy, a “martyr

The event

  • And Saul was there, giving approval to Stephen’s death. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria… Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Acts 8:1&4 BSB

Note, persecution led to evangelism elsewhere.
