Other versions

  • After two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream Genesis 41:1 BSB
  • Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discerning and wise as you are. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command. Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you.”  Genesis 41:38-40 ESV
After correctly interpreting the cupbearer’s dream, it took 2 full years.

Benefits of waiting on/for GOD

  • The LORD is good to those who wait [confidently] for Him, To those who seek Him [on the authority of God’s word]. Lamentations 3:25 AMP
  • Wait on the LORD, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. Psalm 37:34 NKJV

  • For from days of old no one has heard, nor has ear perceived, Nor has the eye seen a God besides You, Who works and acts in behalf of the one who [gladly] waits for Him. Isaiah 64:4 AMP

What do you do while waiting?

Keep doing all that you can. See below:

  • David: So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward… When David came to Saul and entered his service, Saul admired him greatly, and David became his armor-bearer…. The three oldest had followed Saul, but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father’s sheep in Bethlehem. 1 Samuel 16:13,21 & 17:14-15 BSB
It is hard to find a passage that says anything about Waiting and wasting time by not doing anything.

Wait till ...

  • All the days of my warfare and service I will wait, till my change and release shall come. Job 14:14 AMPC

GOD will not have us wait indefinitely

  • Grain for bread is crushed, Indeed, he does not continue to thresh it forever. Because the wheel of his cart and his horses eventually damage it, He does not thresh it longer. Isaiah 28:28 NASB
  • Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But desire fulfilled is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12 NASB
