  • I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Psalms 32:5 NKJV

What is sin?

Sin is primarily against GOD

  • Joseph: There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil, and sin against God?” Genesis 39:9 NASB
  • DavidAgainst You, You only, have I sinned And done that which is evil in Your sight Psalm 51:4 AMP

Am I a Sinner?

  • all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23 NIV
  •  If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that we are sinners], we delude ourselves and the truth is not in us. [His word does not live in our hearts.] ..If we say that we have not sinned [refusing to admit acts of sin], we make Him [out to be] a liar [by contradicting Him] and His word is not in us. 1 John 1:8,10 AMP

Consequences of Sin

1. Spiritual Death

  • the wages of sin is death Romans 6:23 KJV
  • Then when the illicit desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin has run its course, it gives birth to deathJames 1:15 AMP

2. Separation from GOD

  • your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. Isaiah 59:2 NKJV

3. Physical Infirmity

  • Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” John 5:14 NKJV
  • Fools, because of their transgression, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted. Psalm 107:17 NKJV
  • Cut through and make smooth, straight paths for your feet [that are safe and go in the right direction], so that the leg which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather may be healed. Hebrews 12:13 AMP

4. Wilderness

  • So the Lord’s anger was kindled against the sons of Israel (Jacob) and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the entire generation of those who had done evil in the sight of the Lord was destroyed. Numbers 32:13 AMP
  • For if you turn back from following Him [completely], He will once again leave them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all these people.” Numbers 32:15 AMP

5. Errors of judgement

  • Then David sent word to Tamar at the palace: “Please go to the house of Amnon your brother and prepare a meal for him.” 2 Samuel 13:7 BSB
  • But Absalom urged him, so the king sent Amnon and the rest of his sons.  2 Samuel 13:27 BSB
Please note, these were after David had been forgiven.

Sequence of Sin

  • Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God” [for temptation does not originate from God, but from our own flaws]; for God cannot be tempted by [what is] evil, and He Himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted when he is dragged away, enticed and baited [to commit sin] by his own [worldly] desire (lust, passion). Then when the illicit desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin has run its course, it gives birth to deathJames 1:13-15 AMP

Example: Adam & Eve

  • Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He 1said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent 1said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman 2saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she 3took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. …[only] from the tree of the knowledge (recognition) of good and evil you shall not eat, otherwise on the day that you eat from it, you shall most certainly 4die [because of your disobedience].” Genesis 3:1-6 ESV & Genesis 2:17 NASB

Sequence: 1Temptation + 2Worldly Desire >> 3Commit Sin >> 4Death

Sinner's Prayer

Almighty God
I confess that I am a sinner.
Please forgive me of all my sins.
I believe that Jesus Christ is Your son.
I believe that He took all my sins upon Himself and that He died and rose again.
I receive Him into my life as my Lord and Saviour.
In Jesus name I pray.
Amen
