The Bible says

  • “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 NKJV
This verse has at least 3 components
1. Repentance
2. Water Baptism
3. Receiving the Holy Spirit

So the second step after repentance is water baptism

Water Baptism

WHY?

Baptism follows believing

  • Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved Mark 16:16 NIV
  • “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Acts 2:38a NIV

WHEN?

As soon as possible after repenting of sins/accepting Christ as Lord and Saviour.

  • Now, why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins by calling on His name [for salvation].’ Acts 22:16 AMP
And the third step after water baptism is receiving the Holy Spirit

Receiving the Holy Spirit

How does one receive the Holy Spirit? By asking GOD

  • If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:13 NKJV
What are the signs of receiving the Holy Spirit? Speaking in Tongues and/or prophesying

  • And they were all filled [that is, diffused throughout their being] with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues (different languages), as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out [clearly and appropriately]. Acts 2:4 AMP
  • And when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in [unknown] tongues (languages) and prophesying. Acts 19:6 AMP
