GOD's will regarding our health

1. The price paid for our health

The Lord Jesus died for our sins; but He was wounded for our health

2. Good Health

State of being in good health: God’s will for us

  • Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually]. 3 John 1:2 AMP

3. Healing

Removal of illness: God’s will for us

4. Cure

5. Complete Bodily Healing

6. All Healed

  • Peter: And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed. Acts 5:14-16 ESV
To summarise, GOD would have us all be cured and be in Perfect Health

Causes Of Sickness

1. Satan & Evil spirits

  • How God anointed and consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the [Holy] Spirit and with strength and ability and power; how He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devila, for God was with Him. Acts 10:38 AMP
  • When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick Matthew 8:16 NKJV
  • Someone in the crowd replied, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a spirit that makes him mute. When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He rebuked the unclean spirit. “You deaf and mute10 spirit,” He said, “I command you to come out and never enter him again.” Mark 9:17, 25 BSB
  • While he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. Luke 9:42 ESV
  • Lord, do pity and have mercy on my son, for he has epilepsy (is moonstruck) and he suffers terribly; for frequently he falls into the fire and many times into the water… And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly. Then the disciples came to Jesus and asked privately, Why could we not drive it out? He said to them, Because of the littleness of your faith [that is, your lack of firmly relying trust].   • One Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman there had been disabled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was hunched over and could not stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your disability.” Then He placed His hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and began to glorify God…. Then should not this daughter of Abraham11, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be released from her bondage on the Sabbath day?” Luke 13:10-13, 16 BSB

aHe healed all who were oppressed by the devil; or in other words He healed none who were not oppressed by the devil (See All Healed). Elsewhere it says that He healed all who came to Him. Putting 2 and 2 together, one could imply that the cause of all ill health is the devil.

2. Sinful Behavior

  • Fools, because of their transgression, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted. Psalm 107:17 NKJV
  • Cut through and make smooth, straight paths for your feet [that are safe and go in the right direction], so that the leg which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather may be healed. Hebrews 12:13 AMP

3. Other Causes

No known reason

  • Timothy: No longer continue drinking [only] water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent illnesses. 1 Timothy 5:23 AMP
  • Elisha: Now Elisha had become sick with the illness by which he would die. 2 Kings 13:14 AMP

Modes Of Healing

1. Prayer

  • Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD …“Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the leader of my people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. 2 Kings 20:2&5 ESV

2. Commanding evil spirits

  • And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly. Matthew 17:18 AMPC
  • When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again!” Mark 9:25 NASB

3. Proclamations in Faith

  • Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” … And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. Acts 3:6,16 NKJV 
  • The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed… Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! As you have believed, so will it be done for you.” And his servant was healed at that very hour. Matthew 8:8,13 BSB
  • Jesus said to him, “Go; your son lives!” The man believed what Jesus said to him and started home.  As he was already going down [the road], his servants met him and reported that his son was living [and was healthy]. John 4:50-51 AMP
  • Then Jesus told him, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.” Immediately the man was made well, and he picked up his mat and began to walk. John 5:8-9 BSB

4. Laying on of hands

  • These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.” Mark 16:17-18 AMP

6. Breaking of bread

That [careless and unworthy participation] is the reason why many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep [in death]. 1 Corinthians 11:30 AMP

7. Elders praying

  • Is anyone among you sick? He must call for the elders (spiritual leaders) of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord James 5:14 AMP

8. Confessing sins & praying

  • Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. James 5:16 NASB

9. Cling to God's word

 
  • My son, pay attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. They are not to escape from your sight; Keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life to those who find12 them, And healing to all their body. Proverbs 4:20-22 NASB

10. Help from both Physicians & GOD

  • And Jesus replied to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but [only] those who are sick. Luke 5:31 AMP
  • In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa developed a disease in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his illness he did not seek the Lord, but [relied only on] the physicians. So Asa slept with his fathers [in death], dying in the forty-first year of his reign. 2 Chronicles 16:12-13 AMP 

11. Obedience to Men of GOD

  • Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh will be restored to you and you will be clean.” … So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, in accordance with the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. 2 Kings 5:10 & 14 AMP
  • Now Isaiah had said, “Let them take a lump of figs, and apply it as a poultice on the boil, and he shall recover.” Isaiah 38:21 NKJV
 Obedience specifically in what the Man of GOD tells you to do regarding healing.

Spectacular Healings

  • For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. Acts 8:7 NKJV
  • As Jesus passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from birth. John 9:1 NASB 
  • And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Acts 3:2 ESV
  • And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this restraint on the Sabbath day?” Luke 13:16 NASB
  • Now a man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. John 5:5 NASB
Question:
Why did people remain blind & lame from birth?
Why did people have to stay unwell for 18 & 38 years?
Why are people still unhealed for many many years?

Lack of Anointed people of GOD. See below

Good Health in Old Age

  • Moses: Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished. Deuteronomy 34:7 NKJV
  • Caleb: And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Joshua 14:10-11 NKJV
  • Jacob: they answered, “Your servant our father is in good health13; he is still alive.” Genesis 43:28 NKJV

GOD's promise to the Israelites

  • You shall serve the Lord, your God; then He will bless your food and drink, and I will remove sickness from your midst; no woman in your land will be barren or miscarry; and I will give you a full span of life. Exodus 23:25-26 NABRE

Both promises i.e of Healing and Full Life Span were given simultaneously. However only 3 people out of many thousands (over the age of 20) lived to be over 80; Moses, Joshua and Caleb. Why? disobedience to God’s commands. Believing God’s promises makes them come true for us. Read: Word is alive

  • Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished. Deuteronomy 34:7 NKJV
  • Your bodies will fall in this wilderness—all who were numbered in the census, everyone twenty years of age or older—because you have grumbled against Me…Of those men who went to spy out the land, only Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive. Numbers 14:29, 38 BSB

Those used for Curing Diseases

  • Jesus: How God anointed and consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the [Holy] Spirit and with strength and ability and power; how He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devil, for God was with Him. Acts 10:38 AMP

  • But the news about Him was spreading farther, and large crowds kept gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their illnesses. But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray [in seclusion]. Luke 5:15-16 AMP 
  • Apostles: THEN JESUS called together the Twelve [apostles] and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases Luke 9:1 AMPC

  • Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely (without pay) you have received, freely (without charge) give. Matthew 10:8 AMPC

Likewise, we can also be used by GOD for curing diseases. See below
