INNOCENT BEHAVIOURS

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Key Verse

  • when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods; and his heart was not completely devoted to the LORD his God, as was the heart of his father David. 1 Kings 11:4 AMP
The same behaviours we consider innocent can become snares as we get older i.e. Innocent ungodly habits can prove dangerous in the long run. Could it be possible that we cultivate habits that are good for our body, mind and spirit?

Suggestions

1. Body

  • I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27 ESV
Other versions

  • I buffet my body and make it my slave, lest possibly, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27 NASB 1977
  • But [like a boxer] I strictly discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached [the gospel] to others, I myself will not somehow be disqualified [as unfit for service]. 1 Corinthians 9:27 AMP
Would it just be possible that we could switch certain behaviours for our long term good? e.g. Drinking sparkling water instead of carbonated drinks, drinking warm water instead of tea/coffee etc

2. Mind

  • And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 NKJV

3. Spirit

  • For physical training is of some value, but godliness (spiritual training) is of value in everything and in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and for the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8 AMP

Conclusion

  • Everything is permissible for me, but not all things are beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything [and brought under its power, allowing it to control me]. 1 Corinthian 6:12 AMP
  • All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All things are lawful, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]. 1 Corinthian 10:23 AMP

Prayer

Lord help me to cultivate habits that are beneficial for my body, mind and spirit.
In Jesus Name
