1. Earth

  • And the great dragon was thrown down, the age-old serpent who is called the devil and Satan, he who continually deceives and seduces the entire inhabited world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Revelation 12:9 AMP

2. Regions

  • the prince of the kingdom of Persia was standing in opposition to me for twenty-one days. Daniel 10:13 AMP

3. Living Beings

May inhabit humans

  • “Now when the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, it roams through waterless (dry, arid) places in search of rest, but it does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it arrives, it finds the place unoccupied, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and make their home there. Matthew 12:43-45 AMP
  • For Jesus had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” Mark 5:8 AMP
  • And the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us into the pigs so that we may enter them.” Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the pigs; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea. Mark 5:12-13 NASB
Evil spirits prefer to dwell in humans (or other living beings) as they do not find rest elsewhere.

Have Names

  • And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he said to Him, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” Mark 5:9 NASB

  • Someone in the crowd replied, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a spirit that makes him mute. When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He rebuked the unclean spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” He said, “I command you to come out and never enter him again.” Mark 9:17&25 BSB
Evil spirits are named by the disease they cause eg. “deaf and mute spirit” and commanded by name to leave.

Effects

2. Illness

3. Division

4. Lies

See also

  • You are of your father, the devil, and it is your will to practice the lusts and gratify the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar [himself] and the father of lies and of all that is false. John 8:44 AMPC

5. Perversion, Error & Confusion

  • The Lord has mingled a spirit of perverseness, error, and confusion within her; [her leaders] have caused Egypt to stagger in all her doings, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit. Isaiah 19:14 AMPC

Void

  • But when the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, it roams through dry [arid] places in search of rest, but it does not find any. Then it says, I will go back to my house from which I came out. And when it arrives, it finds the place unoccupied, swept, put in order, and decorated. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and make their home there. And the last condition of that man becomes worse than the first. So also shall it be with this wicked generation. Matthew 12:43-45 AMPC
  • But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented and troubled him. 1 Samuel 16:14 AMPC
It’s almost as if a spiritual void cannot exist.

Need to drive out evil spirits to get full possession

  • I will drive them out before you little by little, until you have increased and are strong enough to take possession of the land. Exodus 23:30 AMP
  • ‘When you have crossed the Jordan into the land of Canaan, then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their engraved stones, destroy all their molded images, and demolish all their high places; you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell in it, for I have given you the land to possess… But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell. Moreover it shall be that I will do to you as I thought to do to them.’ ” Numbers 33:51-53, 55-56 NKJV

How to drive out evil spirits

1. Prayer & Fasting

  • And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” Mark 9:28-29 NKJV

One who has been living a lifestyle of Prayer and Fasting, can just command and make evil spirits leave. Note, Jesus did not say the evil spirit left because He was Anointed. See:

GOD can give us Authority over Evil Spirits

  • Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to2 us in Your name.” And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority3 to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power4 of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:17-20 NKJV

Other versions

  • The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” He said to them, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like [a flash of] lightning. Nevertheless do not rejoice at this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.” Luke 10:17-20 AMP

It is possible to torment evil spirits

  • And they screamed out, “What business do we have [in common] with each other, Son of God? Have You come to torment us before the appointed time [of judgment]?” Matthew 8:29 AMP
  • Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out [terribly from the depths of his throat], saying, “What business do You have with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Evil spirits can be stubborn

  • Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities, but the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land.
